Toronto’s New Tire Disposal System
by gerald on Jul.05, 2010, under new
If only they had such a system in Thunder Bay! My Brock St. ordeal would have been much easier!
In other news, Toronto is hot. Damn hot. I got myself a Slurpee equivalent and have serious doubs as to whether or not I’ll get any sleep tonight. Wish I had some sort of water-cooled blanket system. Or air conditioning–yeah, that would do it.
Big top fun

While Toronto was a police state during the G20 summit I went to East York Town Centre to see the world famous Shrine Circus. Main reason–my college roomate Devin is the ring master. Yes, that’s right. He ran away with the circus.
It was a great show but I couldn’t use most of the pics I took because most of the acts were nonstop movement. Gotta say though–had a lot of fun. If you haven’t been to the circus in a while I highly recommend it.
I want an iPad.
by admin on May.30, 2010, under new
I don’t need one. I just really want one.
Reading these days about the new device as well as pieces about Apple’s closed development platform and the whole ban on Adobe’s Flash.
Many people have the same opinion as me. Apple makes the device and therefore has every right to control the user experience. People will buy it BECAUSE it can’t be loaded with security exploits and bloatware. It just works.
Someone told me a stat that something like over 90% of security problems on iPhones are on jailbreaked handsets. Doesn’t that alone shed light on why apple is trying to maintain tight control of the device?
Anyway, I’m taking donations. Get me an iPad!
I was there!

Conan O’Brien did a show last night at Massey Hall in Toronto and Katie and I were there!! Through Katie’s friend Elias we got two sixth row tickets for the show.
The funny thing about this show is how it was advertised. Apparently there was one tweet from Conan announcing the show and it sold out within minutes. I guess twitter is actually good for something.
The show was pretty good. There was lots of music and props and the opening comedian was absolutely awesome. Lots of surprises and funny video clips from Walker Texas Ranger. The ‘I got canned’ theme was a bit overdone for my taste but still there was enough substance to the show to make it worth the steep ticket prices.
The pic I posted here should say CONAN at the top and a pic of Conan and underneath ‘legally prohibited from being funny on TV tour’.
Hey. I’m on a bus going to work on a sunday. How much does that suck? I should rightfully be nursing a hangover right now. Oh well. On with the show.
Been a long time since I…

Ok, here’s a sign in my neighbourhood. It made me smile. What about you?
So I know it’s been far too long since I added some content to this thing. I promise I’ll get more regular with it. I haven’t been posting much on facebook and twitter. Part of me wants to close those accounts especially with the privacy issues with Facebook.
So what do you think? I’ve heard suggestions of an open source facebook like revision of html that allows you to purchase your domain and have your data integrated with others in a facebook like way without all the advertising. It would also give end users ultimate control of who can see your data. Could something like this work?
So those three of you who read this blog regularly may remember my thunder bay property saga. Bad tenants, piles of tires, random animal feces and so on. Well, you will be pleased to know that at long last I am free of that turd of a house! I sold it and now when I go to Thunder Bay it will be for pure leisure and visits. What do you think of that?
So I have to say my life is shaping up brilliantly! I’m in a wonderful relationship and have a wonderfully developing career and a fantabuloso apartment in a spanky neighbourhood.
Speaking of, do you think this credit union is spanky?
Go Habs! Bring the cup back to Canada where it belongs!!

Tonight’s the night!! Gonna get my winterlicious on for the first time!
Katie and I are going to an Indian place for a 25 dollar three course meal!
This leads me to a very important question for all my readers out there (all 3 of you)…
What goes better with curry, beer or wine?
Please comment with your thoughts.
Poor Robin

Just thought I’d share with you what I’ve been enjoying my morning coffee from.
Calvin gave me this the last time I was in Thunder Bay. I have nicer travel mugs that keep coffee hotter longer but there’s something wonderfully retro about this beat up old Robins Donuts mug. I carry it with pride on the TTC.
For those of you who don’t know, Robins is a donut and coffee shop chain that started in Thunder Bay in the 70s. It was doing well until Tim Horton kicked the crap out of it in the late 90s. The mug has a copyright notice on it mentioning the parent company Northco Foods.
Yeah. Coffee. Wonder how many years until Robins ceases to exist. Who owns them now? Anyone know?
Yay for Saturday night!!

Hello there coffee fans.
Here’s a pic of me and Katie from last night at the Volleyball Reunion. It doesn’t really make sense to me and it doesn’t really have to.
look at us!!
Things are going well enough. I’m on my way to being ready to sell. Katie, Colin, Brenda B, Mac, Bonar, Reinhard, Ryan and my brother have been great help. I wouldn’t be able to manage this without you all.
So yeah, new tennant I got last summer screwed me. She stopped paying rent and I had to evict her. In the end she wasn’t heating the house so there was some pipe freezing and I can’t believe how dirty she made the house in only four months.
Decided I couldn’t handle this and decided to hand the house over to the bank. Found out after I called the bank that this would haunt me for years and decided I should try to sell. Called the bank to relay this. They said no problem and more than 24 hours later a property management company locked up my doors. Called CIBC and it turns out they didn’t relay my intentions to the right department fast enough and I was responsible for around 460 bucks worth of legal and property management fees.
Tried to fight this with the argument that I shouldn’t be responsible for shortcomings in the banks communication procedures. Seriously, why couldn’t anyone even have made a phone call?
So, after a week and a half I got in the house. Colin has been doing so much work for me. Fixing pipes, clearing out the trash and so on. It’s starting to look as good as it did after my four day disaster last summer. Hopefully good enough to sell.
Also found out that there’s this new program– Ontario Tire Stewardship program. They approved me to have all my 100 or so old tires picked up for free!! Yay!!
Things are moving along. I hate CIBC but yeah, things are getting better. Don’t have such chest pains from the stress anymore.
Thanks everyone!!

Here we are at the Bedford Academy for Katie’s birthday celebrations. Katie’s a bit tipsy and I’m on my second Pilsner Urquell.
Aren’t we cute?

It’s a Christmas Wonderland!

Just thought I’d post a few pics of the decorations I recently noticed in my living room.
It started when I noticed the popsicle-stick thing. After asking Katie what it was she pointed out it was a christmas tree. I couldn’t tell it was green.
The second picture is our jew lights courtesy of my housemate kate.
The third picture is of the little tree Tom found at the side of the road when he was drunk.
The last pic is a little statue that has been in this house for ages. Not really a christmas decoration but still, he’s a photogenic little guy.
Enjoy!
weird popsicle stick thing
lovely lights!
charlie brown would be proud
who is this guy?
