Coffee
Of course you all want to know what I’m drinking, how I’m preparing it and what I’m drinking it from. This page will give you the current goods on my coffee goods.

Roaster:
In April of 2010 I picked up the Caffe Rosto CR-100 from the Green Beanery in Toronto and have been having mixed results with it. Some of you who know me may remember I used to roast with a hot air popcorn popper. It was certainly a more crude method of roasting but I seemed to get more consistent results. Because the Caffe Rosto generates quite a bit of smoke I’m forced to roast on my balcony. The ambient temperature seems to affect roasting times so I seem to constantly over or under roast. I have to figure out some sort of a system. Also I think it will likely be impossible to roast in the winter with this thing. When it’s chilly out the maximum 13 minute cycle produces a super-light roast. Hmmm…. Not sure if I like this thing.
Grinder:
Using a simple Black & Decker stainless steel blade grinder. Nothing fancy and it works quite well. I would like to upgrade to a decent burr grinder in the future to have more even coarse grinds for french press brewing. It works for now.
Coffee Pots:
At the moment my main coffee pot is a stainless steel thermal 8 cup Bodum from Starbucks. It was a gift from Katie and it solves my original gripe with french press pots–heat loss. This thing is fantastic!
Also in stainless, I have my wonderful 6 tasse Bialetti ‘Kitty’ stove-top espresso pot. I got this in a high end housewares shop in Brno. This thing makes a tasty Americano when diluted with hot water. For straight shots I have a set of 4 espresso cups in stainless from Katie. She’s the best!
The original that started it all! My 8 cup Bodum Classic. This pot has seen a lot. I got it for myself for my birthday in 1997 and this thing is still making coffee like a champ! The beaker has been replaced a couple of times but everything else is original. The bolt that holds the handle on to the body is busted and needs to be replaced. This model is completely out of production so I think I might just retire it.
I had a wicked espresso machine in Brno but it died. I guess that’s what I’m on the hunt for next.
Beans:
I have to admit that quite often I just buy a can of Tim Hortons coarse grind for the Bodum but when I do roast I go to the green beanery for my beans. I’m currently working on a bag of Sumatra and a bag of Ethiopian Yirgicheffe. Yummy!
